Why Nigerian's music industry might not be better than this
Being the most talented country and gifted country in
Africa, Nigeria has always seen her artistes collect multiple awards and
accolades in Africa’s Music Industry.
The great nation has seen talented stars who achieved a
lot in the industry and also those who failed to, not because of their
inadequate ability, but rather because they were very talented and Nigeria
needs no talented artiste.
Mentioning a few of Nigeria’s talented musicians, I’d
call Guys like Faze (we all know this guy, the Kolomental crooner who was one
of the three that made up the Plantasun Boiz. Faze is a known gifted musician
who is very gifted vocally and his area of specialty is writing cool songs. Styl
Plus, this team of great vocalist can definitely not be omitted from this list.
Among so mansy others, Nigeria has many gifted and talented musicians,
producers etc.
Both the Nigerian Music Industry and Football
professionals lack a lot. They lack the determination to succeed (don’t get it
twisted) and the hunger for glory. Take the music industry for example, we have
seen talents in 2face, Davido, Olamide, Wizkid, Banky W, P Square, Chidimma,
Omawumi, Tiwa Savage among so many others. It is the dream of every Musician to
attain those heights of glory. Most Nigerians just do not have that mindset,
they do not see or rather look through the wall.
Let's say the truth; I don’t see any popular Nigerian
Musician who sings for nothing else but commercial deals, and MONEY! Yes, it is
hard to admit, but that is the truth, they sing what will make the local fans
throw hands, which will consequently attract commercial deals which will in
turn increase the figures in their accounts. That is where they start losing
it; they forget they have to impress the outer circle should they want to
attain those heights where they will be termed music icons or legends.
The award every character in the industry should aspire
to have is the world’s most prestigious Grammy’s Award. And for someone in the
industry to claim this accolade, there are many attributes your piece is
supposed to have. Starting from the lyrics, it’s message, languages and so many
other factors that are considered. Nigerian musicians always want to sing what
is noisy, oh yeah, what is noisy. Most directors, producers, mixers,
technicians in the industry lacks that cutting edge. They all look the BAG with
the MONEY and not the one with the GLORY.
The worst part of the scenario is that people like Chidimma,
Iyanya came through a talent hunt show “MTN Project Fame” where they were
taught a lot, but when they did finally come out into the real world, they
dumped all those tutorials and switched into the trending style of Nigerian
Musicians.
If I should think of Nigerian musicians that can win the
Grammy’s for now, I would not mention any popular artiste. The likes of
Olamide, Chidimma, Davido, Tiwa Savage are out! While the likes of Timi Dakolo,
Cobhams Asuquo, Banky W, Femi Kuti (four time nominee), Asa and a few others
are in.
The footballers are same, always going for where the
money is, and not where one can play and improve. Mikel is one, less playing
time, barely starts. He has started only one game in six, and in one of his
appearances for Chelsea (against Arsenal), he came on in the last 5 minutes,
but still he would not leave, why? the money is too big to walk away from.
If individuals in the Nigerian Music Industry, Football
world is to go up to certain heights and start competing with the best out
there, money should be the least they worry about, for when you are up there,
the coins will definitely come in.
