Why Nigeria Are Victims Of Fake Products
Nigeria has turned a waste bin for manufacturers
It has
become a norm in Nigeria to either use fake products or forget about using the
products at all. Nigeria is a country that is highly populated and also has
youths that are very desperate to be successful. Nigeria is also a country
where everything sales, I repeat EVERYTHING SALES. No matter the services you
are offering, once you want to sell it, Nigerians will buy.
For this
reason, many individual and collective bodies ( service producers) tend to see
Nigeria as a place to reap fortune, they see Nigeria as the just what they need
to make their money. They now see it that all they need to make their wealth is
just a service/product to render to the helpless citizens of Nigeria.
Now, this is
where the main thing comes to light, when they are making their products, what
they have in mind is not how well it will serve their clients, not the
disadvantages and harms it tends to cause, nor the damage it potentially
carries, but how much profit they will make, how fast they will sell and how
much less they will invest.
They totally
forget that it should be the other way round. Now, averting this sort of manufacturers is not viable, then how can we stop being victims of fake products?
These are the ways;
- The Products Been hemmed in by the responsible governmental bodies
- Avoiding the products when seen
Talking
about the products been hemmed in by the responsible bodies, we understand that
Nigeria has
SON (Standard Organisation
of Nigeria)
responsible for the products that operate in Nigeria, and if the product pass
their tests, they give it the NIS Mark (Nigeria Mark of Quality) as it is
written in some products labels. But I have to say that their minimum
requirements are very low, giving the quality of products that operates in
Nigeria. Talking of electrical gadgets, this is one of the major areas to be
giving high attention, giving that 80% houses burnt, were caused by
electricity. Nigeria has many cables that cannot even withstand a high current
flow through them, when this current happens to flow; it gets burnt, whereby
leading loss of properties and even life. Nigeria must stop this.
Burnt Properties |
Then Nigeria has also
NAFDAC (National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control) they carry the responsibility of
ensuring hygienic, safe food and drugs. But have they really been worth
applauding for? There are many beverages and snacks; that when a look is given
to their table of content and nutritional information table, they contents you
see there will stun you. But nevertheless, they still sell. There are many
sachet water and even bottled water that when you can see the chemicals used
for purification and preservation you will not believe that they are still
allowed to sell. Nigeria must stop
this.
Confiscated Drugs |
On the
citizens avoiding the products when seen, is our own responsibility, that when
the bodies charged with the responsibilities cannot carry them out, should
exempt ourselves from patronizing this producers, it will serve us much good.
Fake
products has indeed brought about property loss, life loss, ill-health and
above all, making our beloved country Nigeria a country without standards. I
hereby charge us to cause a positive change.
